Labradorite is a type of feldspar prized for its unique iridescent flash of color. The smooth polished surface reveals a splash of purple and gold with a metallic sheen. This "labradorescence" is caused by light interference within the stone and is what makes labradorite so popular among gemstone collectors. While labradorite can be found in many different colors, the most desired stones are those that exhibit a strong labradorescence.
