People have been intrigued by amethysts for centuries. Amethyst comes from the Greek word amethystos, meaning "not intoxicated." This refers to the belief that amethysts could protect people from getting drunk. Amethyst is a type of quartz, and it can be found in various colors, from deep purple to pale lavender. This amethyst geode in the shape of an egg is a beautiful example of this variety.
