Amethyst is a stunning and popular gemstone with many beautiful purple colors. It is found in many shades of purple, from light lavender to deep violet. Amethyst is a type of quartz, and its name comes from the Greek word amethystos, which means "not intoxicated." This is because the amethyst was once thought to prevent drunkenness. Amethysts are found in many different parts of the world, but some of the best quality amethysts come from Brazil.
